Geophagy

2018

6.8 x 2.0 m

a temporally intra-active collage

Ink, charcoal, soil, lithographs, digitally printed media.

Geophagy presents a constantly evolving collage that seeks to both stratify as well as erode through temporal wear. Through accumulative construction, Foster intersects the material processes of compost with the concepts and techniques of assemblage to present an ongoing optics of bioturbation as a method of rereading and digesting. Within such assemblage bioturbation acts as an earthly metaphor, entangling approaches to ever present experiences of colonialism. Geophagy offers assemblage as a visual example of the potentialities that intra-actions between different methods of speculation can facilitate. The size of the collage directs but also demands human movement and changes of position. Inviting the viewer to walk up to its surface, to navigate its sediments, to step back to attempt viewing it as a whole, Geophagy calls upon the viewer to walk along with it.
